How to top up the Metro card

To travel with the rechargeable Santo Domingo Metro card you need to have credit on it. Recharging is done at the ticket offices of the stations, and you can choose between a wallet recharge or a trip plan. Here we explain how to do it and how to check your balance.

Go to a station

Head to the ticket office of any Metro or Santo Domingo Cable Car station.

Request a wallet recharge or the trip plan (Multi10 or Multi20) you prefer.

Make the payment

Pay in cash or with a credit or debit card.

The credit is loaded onto the card and you can use it right away.

Wallet recharge

Load any amount you want, from RD$20 up to RD$7,000. Each trip deducts the current fare.

Multi10 plan

A package of trips for RD$185, available only for rechargeable cards.

Multi20 plan

A larger package of trips for RD$360, also only for rechargeable cards.

How to check your card balance

The balance of the Santo Domingo Metro card is checked in person:

At the ticket office

Staff at any station can tell you the balance available on your card.

At the gate

Some gates show the remaining balance when you tap the card.

Tips for topping up

Top up before travelling so you do not run out of credit.
If you travel daily, the Multi10 and Multi20 plans are better value.
Keep your rechargeable card: it is always reusable.
Check your balance at the ticket office before you enter.
