SANTO DOMINGO METRO CARD
Everything about the card for travelling on the Santo Domingo Metro: types, price and where to get it
The Santo Domingo Metro card
The card is the way to pay for travel on the Santo Domingo Metro. The system, run by OPRET, offers two types of card depending on how often you travel. This page explains which cards exist, how much they cost and where to get them.
The rechargeable card
The rechargeable card is a plastic, non-disposable card that you load with credit and reuse as many times as you like. It costs RD$60 and, when you buy it, a minimum recharge of two trips (RD$40) is required, so the initial price is RD$100. It is the recommended option if you use the Metro often.
The single-use card
The single-use card is a disposable cardboard card that cannot be recharged. It is meant for occasional riders and visitors, and comes in three options: a single trip (RD$35), a round trip (RD$55) and a 24-hour pass (RD$95).
Card price and where to get it
The cards are bought and topped up at the ticket offices of the Metro and the Santo Domingo Cable Car stations. The rechargeable card costs RD$60, plus the first recharge.
Paying with a credit or debit card
Alongside the Metro card, the system has added payment with credit and debit cards, which speeds up access for passengers. Even so, the rechargeable card remains the most practical and economical option for daily travel.
